Burlington, Mass. -- October
26, 2004 – Emptoris,
Inc., the leading provider of Enterprise Supply Management solutions
for Global 5000 companies, congratulates its customer, Motorola for
winning the coveted 2004 Franz Edelman Award for achievement in operations
research and the management sciences. Motorola, a global leader in
wireless, broadband and automotive communications technologies, was
selected for this prestigious industry award for its entry “Reinventing
the Supplier Negotiation Process at Motorola” that highlights
its streamlined supplier management process that leverages Emptoris’ end-to-end,
Internet negotiation platform.
Motorola will accept the Edelman Award at
the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences
(INFORMS®) Annual Meeting
today in Denver. The Edelman Award, also referred to as the "Tech
World Series," is sought after by operations researchers and planners
around the world and presented each year at the meeting.
Motorola was recognized for implementing a
comprehensive vendor management system that supports the company’s
sourcing process and provides innovative bidding, online negotiations
and scenario-based optimization analysis. The system, which manages
$17 billion in purchase among 1,200 suppliers worldwide, achieved
$600 million in cost savings over 18 months, while serving as a catalyst
for moving Motorola from isolated sourcing efforts by individual
sectors of the company to conducting truly global negotiations jointly
across business units.
Avner Schneur, founder and CEO of Emptoris,
will be at the event along with several Motorola executives to accept
the award and discuss the benefits of Motorola’s Internet Negotiations
Tool (MINT) powered by Emptoris.
“The Edelman Award underscores Motorola’s strategic leadership
in sourcing. We are proud to play a key role in its initiative to re-invent
its supplier negotiation process,” said Schneur. “Companies
like Motorola are realizing that sourcing and supply management strategies
are crucial to meeting the needs of their businesses and that developing
a strong sourcing strategy not only affects the bottom line, but also
improves business processes and relationships with their suppliers.
Motorola’s selection as this year’s Edelman Award winner
further validates this concept. We congratulate them for this remarkable
achievement.”
Emptoris provides its customers with a comprehensive Internet-based
supply management solution that integrates spend analysis, supplier
