BURLINGTON, Mass., July 29, 2002 - Emptoris, Inc., a provider of collaborative strategic sourcing solutions, today announced that AMR Research has named Emptoris as a leading vendor in the e-sourcing software market in its latest report on strategic sourcing, published on July 28. AMR Research is a strategic advisory firm that provides business and technology executives with the critical analysis and practical advice needed to manage resources, mitigate risk and increase business value. After a comprehensive examination of the e-sourcing software market, AMR Research cited Emptoris as a leading e-sourcing vendor based on its impressive performance in the following areas: product functionality, technology, and market presence and vision.
AMR Research conducted the report in order to provide its manufacturing-based end user clients a complete and unbiased analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of leading strategic sourcing providers. After identifying seventeen vendors in the e-sourcing market, AMR Research gathered information through three primary means: a Request for Information (RFI) that focused on detailed company data as well as coverage of business processes and functional requirements; a 4-6 hour product demonstration and review; and five customer references.
“Very Strong” Functionality
After tabulating the results of its research, AMR Research analysts Pierre Mitchell, Jennifer Kemmeter and Janet Suleski concluded, “Emptoris is very strong in all functional processes associated with direct materials support.” Specific functional areas where Emptoris was particularly strong include: Analysis and Planning; Direct/BOM-based Sourcing; RFI and RFQ; Bidding Events; Bid Analysis; Negotiation and Contract Creation. The report also notes that the Emptoris ePASS solution is top rated for “using constraint-based optimization to model complex direct materials supply chains, including line item RFx allocations to supplier bids, as well as the overall scenario and planning process.” In terms of technology, AMR Research states “Emptoris’ integrated, internally developed functionality is a strong point for companies looking for one sourcing application to cover a range of capabilities.”
“Exceptional” Customer Service and Satisfaction
As part of its strategic sourcing field review, AMR Research interviewed five Emptoris customers. End users reported that Emptoris was very responsive to their needs, “with one customer describing Emptoris as ‘exceptional’ in its level of customer service.” Based on these customer interviews, AMR Research reports that “cycle time on analyzing multivariate sourcing options has been reduced by as much as 85%.” In addition, AMR Research states that Emptoris has “strong customer accounts in several vertical markets” and found that “users report that their respect for the company’s management team was a factor in choosing to adopt its applications.”
"AMR Research has long been recognized as the leading analyst firm for the manufacturing industry. In the last few years it has also emerged as the leading source of accurate, in-depth coverage of the strategic sourcing space. Emptoris is honored to be named a top e-sourcing vendor by AMR Research. We are particularly proud that the testimonials of our customers, such as Motorola, helped AMR Research make their decision. The conclusions of the AMR Research report on e-sourcing solidify Emptoris’ position as a leader in the e-sourcing software market," said Avner Schneur, president and CEO, Emptoris.
