MOLSON SELECTS EMPTORIS TO SOURCE DIGITAL OFFICE EQUIPMENT ONLINE
Canada's Pre-eminent Brewer uses Emptoris' ePASS to Determine Optimal Supply
Base Allocation, Shorten Sourcing Cycles and Lower Sourcing Costs
Burlington,
Mass., August 6, 2001 - Emptoris, Inc., a leading developer
of Web-based collaborative strategic sourcing solutions, today announced
that Molson (TSE: MOL.A), Canada's pre-eminent brewer with more
than $2.5 billion in annual sales, recently selected Emptoris' ePASS
to launch Molson's first e-sourcing initiative.
Using
ePASS, Molson was able to send suppliers a Request For Information
(RFI) via the web to obtain specific supplier information (such
as performance and other non-price factors), quickly construct
and issue Request For Quotes (RFQs), instantly analyze all supplier
bids through ePASS' optimization-based decision support engine
(taking into account non-price factors, and buyer pricing and
purchasing policies), determine the optimal supply base allocation
and then award business to suppliers.
"The
main reason Molson chose Emptoris was the strong decision support
capabilities of ePASS," said Andy Schoepke, Molson's National
Procurement Manager for Indirect Supplies and Services. "In
order to make the best supply base allocation, we needed a sourcing
solution that could take into account non-price factors, such
as supplier reliability and performance. The combination of ePASS'
industry-leading sourcing event workflow and optimization-based
decision support capabilities helped Molson to make a better sourcing
decision faster. We are impressed with ePASS' functionality and
the overall final result."
By
implementing ePASS, multiple purchasing organizations across an
enterprise can efficiently aggregate and disseminate their sourcing
needs to their primary suppliers. Using ePASS collaborative sourcing
capabilities, primary suppliers can interact with other suppliers
to quickly respond to the buyers' overall demand. Through ePASS'
optimization-based decision support technology buyers can quickly
analyze all purchasing scenarios through scientific algorithms
to come to the optimal supply base allocation. Combining advanced
collaboration, sourcing event management and decision support
capabilities, ePASS enables enterprises to streamline the strategic
sourcing process, determine the optimal supply base allocation,
and forge tighter buyer/supplier networks, allowing buyers to
lower the total cost of ownership while enabling suppliers to
differentiate themselves through product criteria, historical
performance and flexible pricing structures.
"As
a comprehensive e-sourcing solution, ePASS addresses every phase
of the strategic sourcing process," said Avner Schneur, president
and CEO of Emptoris. "Today, Molson is focusing on sourcing
event management and decision support. By selecting ePASS, Molson
is guaranteed that as its online sourcing initiatives expand,
it has a solution that will provide them with end-to-end capabilities,
including spend analysis, supplier strategy, sourcing event management,
negotiation, supply base allocation, contract management and supplier
performance monitoring. Emptoris is excited to be working with
Molson to optimize the sourcing of essential goods and services."
